About me
Abbas Shiri was born in May 1986 in the city of Khomein in Iran. He got a BSc and MSc in Electrical Engineering in 2009 and 2012 from Bu-Ali Sina University and the University of Tehran successively. He started Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering five years later at the University of Central Florida and did research in Optics and Photonics at CREOL and received a Ph.D. degree in 2022. His research areas of interest are light-matter interaction, optical resonators and waveguides, optical beams, and spatiotemporal light shaping. He likes to play Tar and hike in his free time.

Mirali is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he is currently focused on Quantum Sensing. He earned his Ph.D. in Light-Matter Interaction and Spectroscopy from the Nanoplasmonics Group at the University of Victoria in Canada. Prior to that, he completed his M.Sc. at Sharif University of Technology and his B.Sc. at the University of Tabriz, both in Materials Engineering

About me

Jack is a PhD candidate in Applied Physics at Stanford University. His dissertation research at SLAC focuses on software model development and optics design for real-time programmable machine learning-based photo-injector laser shaping for LCLS-II. Additionally, his work involves data readout, reduction, and restructuring for X-ray diagnostics at LCLS-II. Outside of research, Jack enjoys soccer, hiking, badminton, weightlifting, and exploring food.

Brittany is a PhD student studying electron-photon interactions. She obtained her M.Sc. in Physics from the University of Alberta in 2019, studying atomic physics, and her B.Sc. in Physics degree from Simon Fraser University in 2019. Outside of academia she enjoys hiking, running, playing table tennis, cooking, and baking.

Jackson Fletcher (she/her) is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at UCLA Samueli.  Jackson is an alumna of Hampton University where she majored in Physics and minored in Mathematics. She uses her free time to produce an animated series titled “Action Jackson” focused on teaching Physics in bite-sized shorts.

About me

Before joining the QLMC, he got his M.S. and B.S. in Physics from Nankai University in 2020 and 2022, respectively. He also was a research assistant at the City University of Hong Kong in 2021. His research topics include nonlinear optics and photonics. He likes skating, swimming, skiing, playing guitar, and badminton in their free time.

About me

Hao received his B.Sc. degree at Tianjin University in China in 2020 before pursuing his MAS.c degree at the University of Victoria in Canada. He is Quantum BC scholar and Canada NSERC QC CREATE Scholar. Previously, he worked in RF and microwave engineering and since September 2020, he focused on nonlinear optics and plasmon-enhanced optical trapping. Currently, he is a Ph.D. student at the University of California, Los Angeles, supervised by Dr. Sergio Carbajo, and is also a visiting student at SLAC. In his free time, he likes hiking, playing basketball, astronomical observation, and painting.

About me

Jordan Coney recently graduated from Morehouse College, located in Atlanta, Georgia. Morehouse College is where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in physics (and a math minor). Jordan is particularly interested in optics, materials, and data analytics. Jordan plans to pursue a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering at UCLA starting in Fall 2023. Jordan is originally from Reddick, Florida.

Erfan is currently a Master student of Quantum Science and Technology at University of California, Los Angeles. Previously, he was Research Assistant at Phanous Research and Innovation Centre, where he was working on Quantum Machine Learning. Erfan received his bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering from Amirkabir University of Technology and he’s been developing computer programs since he was twelve.
